6/28 Evangelism Pride Parade

It went well. Me, my wife and son attended a pride pride parade on Saturday. Here is my debrief:

What went well:

  • I wore a Jesus won shirt, got a lot of looks and a couple “I like your shirt”s
  • People had love is love shirts and signs, we asked them what love is love means and asked where is the line? Could you say pedophilia is love? We also asked people what their definition of love is
  • We reconnected with a Buddhist we met at forest hill
  • We also got information on future events. One in July and in September, and recurring events 


What I could’ve done better

  • When people defined love, does that come from truth? How do they know that? Points to Gods moral law we all have written on our hearts. Identify where the are on the continuum of Truth, God, Miracles, Ressurection of Jesus
  • Maybe wear a different shirt that still speaks truth but is more inviting to conversation. Jesus is love? Do you know Jesus? My wife was wearing a plain shirt and people talked to her more, or stop when they saw me
  • Prepare a response to my definition of love, was not asked but could’ve been. 
  • When someone’s says they like my shirt, ask if they know Jesus


Lessons learned

  • love is love is not about defining love, but defining relationships. Who can marry who, who can sleep with who. A response was genitalia should not be a factor in who can date/have sex with who. But genitalia is important to the trans people right?
  • Everyone had different definitions of love, and was caught off guard being asked to define it. When talking to one women, her son said love is forgiveness. The mom dismissed it, and I didn’t realize how wise that was till afterwards when my wife called it out.
  • It was not as bad is I thought, I was very nervous going in but after talking with people it wasn’t as scary. I think once people realized i was being kind and respectful they talked more.
  • It is eerie being in a crowd and people are looking at you. 
  • A lot of things they want is not against Christianity. To be kind, not sexist, not racist.
  • It makes you sad sitting down and seeing so many children of God, living sinful lives (being proud of it) and worrying for their salvation. It is encouraging in the sense that there is plenty of work to do here. Missionaries aren’t just needed in Africa and Asia.

9/27 Pride Fest Evangelizing

Today I went to Virginia pride fest at the bon secour training facility with three guys from church. Before going to the event we met for coffee before hand to ask questions, read scripture, verify salvation, verify no footholds for the enemy, and pray. This was a good time asking questions and preparing for the event. Once we finished at the coffee shop we headed to the event. On the way to the event we split into pairs, two groups of two. It was a large venue, they were expecting 40,000+ people but with the rain but with the rain it was a fraction of that. At pride fest there were food trucks, concert stage, and vendor booths. We spent most of our time talking with the people at the booths. I will share four conversations, and what went well and what we can improve.  What we did well: I asked for help, I did not go alone I was deliberate with my clothing, I tried to be as welcoming as possible. 8/8 Jehovahs Witness Knocks on my Door

  Some Jehovah’s Witness came by my house today and gave me an invite to their upcoming convention, it is an invitation to JW events. I talked with them about Jesus’ deity. I was searching my mind for the deity versus, I am glad I have been working on memorizing them recently. Matthew 12:8, Mark 14:62, John 8:58, John 10:30. I’ll be honest I could’ve been more put together, the knock on the door mid work day threw me off. I did get the guys phone number and planning to reconnect next week.   Afterwards talking with others more scripture was brought up John 14:9, Daniel 7, John 1:1, Phil 2:4, Isiah 6 and 10. When I stepped outside to talk with them I did not have a bible on me, so when we looked at verses it was through the JW app on her phone. So I believe we were looking at the NWT, next time bring out my own bible. I usually use NIV or ESV, but KJV could be a common ground they would listen to (initial research I’ve done). Statement of Faith

  The Holy Bible, and only the Bible, is the authoritative Word of God. There is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. These three are coequal and co-eternal. Jesus Christ is God the Son, the second person of the Trinity. On earth, Jesus was 100% God and 100% man. He is the only man ever to have lived a sinless life. He was born of a virgin, performed miracles, died on the cross for mankind, and thus atoned for our sins through the shedding of His blood. He rose from the dead on the third day according to the Scriptures, ascended to the right hand of the Father, and will return again in power and glory. We are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ: His death, burial, and resurrection. Salvation is a gift from God, not a result of our good works or of any human efforts.
