7/12 Chapel Serve Day

This Saturday I was able to help serve a local single mom by leading a couple guys in a serve day project through The Chapel Church. This project was to replace the front steps on her porch, they were old and starting to show signs of wear. When we took the deck boards off we realized the stringers underneath themselves were not enough so we added some beams there to increase their strength. Once that was done we cut and screwed in new deck boards. This took us a few hours to complete, in the July heat before the afternoon rain shower hit. We were cleaning up as it was about to rain. I am very grateful for the two guys that I served with, they had most of the tools and completed most of the work I cannot take the credit for completing this work. 


That was the work we physically did, before that started everyone doing the serve day met at the Chapel for worship and a devotional. There was over 1,000 people doing serve day. The sanctuary was packed, standing room only. The worship was powerful, it was something to stand in a room full of believers worshiping Jesus and excited to go out and serve our community. The devotional was on John 13:4-15, these versus tell us about how Jesus washed his disciples feet. He served his disciples versus having others serve him. The analogy for the 21st century of washing feet, is washing a toilet and a toilet bowl brush was used as a prop. There are a lot of similarities between washing feet and toilet cleaning,  back in Jesus’ day they wore sandals, probably stepped in poop often, Jesus used a basin or bowl, and there was water involved. We were challenged to go out and wash peoples toilets in the community, whether literally or figuratively.


After we cleaned up before the rain came the four of us (mom and three of us serving) prayed, we prayed for her as a person, a child of God, and as a mother of two children.


I personally really enjoyed the serve day, it was my first time leading a service project and enjoyed interacting with the homeowner and the guys. Next time I will start planning a little earlier, as I procrastinated a little bit on this one. I think there was a missed prayer opportunity on my part, at one point the homeowner’s neighbor came over and was talking with her and I said hello. I think that would’ve been an opportunity to pray with her neighbor. Another missed opportunity would have been to talk more with the homeowner, ask about her faith and Jesus and see if there are any roadblocks on her path of following Jesus or put a stone in her shoes as Koukl says.

9/27 Pride Fest Evangelizing

Today I went to Virginia pride fest at the bon secour training facility with three guys from church. Before going to the event we met for coffee before hand to ask questions, read scripture, verify salvation, verify no footholds for the enemy, and pray. This was a good time asking questions and preparing for the event. Once we finished at the coffee shop we headed to the event. On the way to the event we split into pairs, two groups of two. It was a large venue, they were expecting 40,000+ people but with the rain but with the rain it was a fraction of that. At pride fest there were food trucks, concert stage, and vendor booths. We spent most of our time talking with the people at the booths. I will share four conversations, and what went well and what we can improve.  What we did well: I asked for help, I did not go alone I was deliberate with my clothing, I tried to be as welcoming as possible. 8/8 Jehovahs Witness Knocks on my Door

  Some Jehovah’s Witness came by my house today and gave me an invite to their upcoming convention, it is an invitation to JW events. I talked with them about Jesus’ deity. I was searching my mind for the deity versus, I am glad I have been working on memorizing them recently. Matthew 12:8, Mark 14:62, John 8:58, John 10:30. I’ll be honest I could’ve been more put together, the knock on the door mid work day threw me off. I did get the guys phone number and planning to reconnect next week.   Afterwards talking with others more scripture was brought up John 14:9, Daniel 7, John 1:1, Phil 2:4, Isiah 6 and 10. When I stepped outside to talk with them I did not have a bible on me, so when we looked at verses it was through the JW app on her phone. So I believe we were looking at the NWT, next time bring out my own bible. I usually use NIV or ESV, but KJV could be a common ground they would listen to (initial research I’ve done). Statement of Faith

  The Holy Bible, and only the Bible, is the authoritative Word of God. There is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. These three are coequal and co-eternal. Jesus Christ is God the Son, the second person of the Trinity. On earth, Jesus was 100% God and 100% man. He is the only man ever to have lived a sinless life.
